8 DC Villains Who Could Be More Popular Than Heath Ledger's The Joker

2. Red Hood

Although the Red Hood isn't strictly a villain, so to speak, he's certainly a Batman antagonist and one of the more interesting characters to ever pose a threat to the Dark Knight in the comic books. Moreover, "Batman: Under the Red Hood" - a 2010 direct-to-video animated movie - received widespread critical acclaim. Red Hood has been the name given to a number of characters in comic book Batman lore, but the one we're suggesting for big screen fame is Jason Todd. Todd is the former Robin who was killed by the Joker and resurrected as the Red Hood - he then assumes control over various gangs in Gotham City and starts a one-man war against Black Mask's criminal empire. He actively tries to cleanse the city of corruption, such as the illegal drug trade and gang violence, but in a violent, antiheroic way. He eventually comes to blows against Batman and other heroic characters, including the new Robin (Tim Drake), Onyx and Green Arrow. He has also been depicted as having the main intention of making Batman obsolete, which would be a great movie plot. He does this by putting a lot of effort into public relations. For instance he drastically alters his Red Hood costume to look more like a traditional superhero outfit, recruits his own sidekick known as Scarlet and goes about putting an end to any criminals who commit crimes or get in his way. He also leaves a calling card which says "let the punishment fit the crime". With the same aims as Batman, but a very conflicting style and an equally public persona, he could become as popular as Batman himself, let alone the Joker. We think this would be a sure fire movie hit and that he would go down a treat with audiences worldwide.
