8 Directors Who Got Fired From Famous Movies For Insane Reasons

3. Philip Kaufman Was Fired Because He Liked The Same Actress As Clint Eastwood - The Outlaw Josey Wales

Philip KaufmanThe Outlaw Josey Wales is one of Clint Eastwood's best and most popular westerns, one in which he both starred and directed - but it didn't begin that way, because writer/director Philip Kaufman was originally at the helm of the movie, until tensions began to develop on set and things started getting super weird. Yes, after a series of escalating incidents, Eastwood would eventually come to replace Kaufman, who wrote the script. Firstly, Eastwood and Kaufman fell out because Eastwood didn't care for how meticulous the director was being with the shots. It also didn't help that both Eastwood and Kaufman had apparently fallen for lead actress Sondra Locke, and Kaufman had become embittered by the situation. One day, Kaufman went off to find a prop, but Eastwood opted to just shoot the scene whilst he was gone, and then drove off, leaving him stranded. Soon after, Eastwood asked his producer to fire Kaufman, and took over as director. He also, unsurprisingly, got the girl.
