5. The Lord of the Rings : Return of the King
Ok, I know this has been done to death and it will come as no surprise to anyone that this ending makes the list, but we cant ignore the fact that Return of the King really does take about 25 minutes to just bloody end. Ahhhhh theyve made it to Mordor..oh, now the Hobbits are bowing to no one is that the..oh wait theyre back in the shire and Sams getting married, seems a little superfluous but there we.oh no wait, Frodos writing his memoirs, fair enough it would make a good book one day that.oh what now? They are going to the undying lands..goodbe gone..Ive needed a wee since the eagles finally arrived, I just want it to be over now. Obviously, the filmmakers want to be loyal to their source material and need to make sure they wrap everything which is covered in the books, but theyve already skimped here, seen as they miss out the whole returning to the shire and finding it overrun with orcs factor, so a bit more trimming wouldnt have hurt. My point here is that books and movies are two very different mediums and what goes for one may not necessarily work for the other. Any film which resolves its main story arc and then has about four more endings on top of that is always going to lose a bit of impact.
