8 Disney Theme Park Rides That Were Turned Into Films

5. Tower Of Terror

Tower Of Terror
Buena Vista

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a frightening drop dark ride that looms in several Disney parks across the globe. The attraction places guests into an episode of the iconic fantasy/horror anthology series, The Twilight Zone with a story of a fictional Hollywood hotel with a supernatural elevator.

The Tower of Terror was actually the very first Disney ride that was adapted into a film with this made-for-television version being released in 1997. The strangest thing about this film is that it bears no connection to its Twilight Zone TV series origins and exists only as a stand-alone story about the supernatural Hollywood hotel.

Interestingly, the film was partially shot at the actual attraction in Florida, surely the only one on this list that can boast such a fact. It also stars Steve Guttenberg and a young Kirsten Dunst.

Unfortunately, the film is nowhere near as scary as the ride, which is to be expected after it shed its Twilight Zone aesthetic and was released under the Disney umbrella. It is however, far from awful and it is fun to see the creepy hotel in all of its glory onscreen. The California version of the attraction was replaced in 2017 with a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed drop ride, however it still remains in Florida, Paris and Tokyo.

If I'm not talking about films, I'm watching them.
