If the recent video game adaptation has shown us anything, it's that nothing feels more like vintage Friday the 13th than something set in the '80s. The decade the franchise was born in is really the only truly viable stomping ground for Jason. Not to mention the fact that it would tap into some of that sweet nostalgia Hollywood is so nuts for these days.

By embracing the fuzzy, VHS-ridden aesthetic of the era, the film could take on a truly unique quality and distinct voice. While shows such as Stranger Things have proven audiences are more than happy to be taken back to that decade, no horror franchise has attempted such a feat as of yet.

Friday is the perfect franchise to lead the charge. The original film was released in 1980, with the sequels running all the way through the decade. It was the decade in which the series was truly at its prime and became what it is remembered as today, making it a perfect fit.

This choice would also immediately make Jason's (and the screenwriter's) job a whole lot easier. Not having to deal with phones or any modern technology would allow more time to focus on the important aspects of the story and its characters, rather than creating lousy excuses for why no one is getting any cell reception.
