8 Euro Trash Movies That Really Scrape The Barrel

7. Zombie Lake (1981) 13.02.2013zombie lake Director Jean Rollin rightly assumed a pseudonym when he helmed this stinker. I would be ashamed to have my name in the credits of Zombie Lake... Or would I? Zombie Lake is a film that really scrapes the barrel but at the same time it is weirdly compelling. It is a 'pet' bad movie, a loveable rogue. Basically there is a lake in France that is spewing forth Nazi zombies (a load of German soldiers were massacred during World War Two and their bodies dumped in the lake). There are endless shots of women's netball teams stopping by the lake and flinging off their clothes. They plunge into the lake and this gives us ample opportunities to become their gynaecologists - such is the focus of the camera on their lady bits. The zombies are so pathetic, the green paint on their face does not extend to the back of their necks. We learn from the film that zombies actually do have emotions - they feel love and are able to track down children they fathered with local women during the town's Nazi occupation. The film should not be missed by connoisseurs of trash cinema - it will provide substantial hearty chuckles and much mirth. If you are not acquainted with trash cinema, the film will make your brain explode.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
