1. Christopher Nolan Is Obsessed With Dead Women
As Seen In... Following, Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises If I were married to Christopher Nolan, I think I'd be slightly unnerved looking back across the span of his filmography to date. You hear that, Emma Thomas? Unnerved! Get out why you can. What, exactly, is freaking me out, you ask? Well, take a look at every movie (aside from Batman Begins) that this talented filmmaker has directed thus far. Almost every one of them is built on the foundations of a woman being murdered, or being already dead, with characters dealing with that notion. Dead women drive all of Nolan's movies - including his little-seen debut Following. Let's take a look: in Memento, a man is obsessed with tracking down his wife's murderer. In Insomnia, a man is obsessed with tracking down the murderer of a young girl. In The Prestige, a man seeks revenge against the man who he blames for his wife's death. In The Dark Knight, Batman's love interest, Rachel, is murdered. In Inception, a man is haunted by the death of his wife. In The Dark Knight Rises, Batman has to deal with the repercussions of his dead girlfriend being... well, still dead. So what gives, Christopher Nolan? Do you hate women? Is this just something you like to reuse because it's a convenient plot device? A combination of both? Whatever the reason, the man's filmography looks to be hiding quite the dark and filthy secret, hm? Or, you know, coincidence.
