8 Famous Movie Scenes That Were Created By Complete Accident

1. Colonel Kurtz Is Totally Crazy In Apocalypse Now...Because Marlon Brando Gained A Ton Of Weight And Didn't Tell The Director

This one isn't so much a scene as it is an entire character. From sets being destroyed through violent weather to Martin Sheen's heart attack, the troubled shooting and production of Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now is extremely well-documented. In what's become one of the most famous €œaccidental€ movie inclusions of all time, Marlon Brando €“ who was supposed to be playing a lean, heroic soldier €“ arrived on set grossly overweight and completely unprepared for the role. Coppola tried to downplay Brando's weight gain by dressing him in black and largely filming just his face. According to the film's co-producer Gray Frederickson, €œNo Green Beret uniform on earth was big enough€ to fit the actor. What this ultimately lead to was a completely different (and much more unhinged) character, with Brando constantly reworking his lines, going off script and convincing Coppola to rewrite the ending. This resulted in one of Brando's most iconic performances, a surreal, visceral character in a film filled with surreal, visceral moments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16lGwL6Pbcc
