7. Elle Driver - Kill Bill, Vol. 1 & 2
Kill Bill tells the story of an skilled assassin ("The Bride") who decides that she doesn't want to do that for a job anymore, and the people who refuse to respect her decision, mainly by trying to murder her dead. Those murder guys are called the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, 'cause this is a Quentin Tarantino movie. One member of this dangerous trope is Elle Driver, a one-eyed character who probably hates The Bride more than any other member, given that she's jealous and that both characters have - at one time - shared a lover in the titular Bill. Eventually the movie brings both The Bride and Elle Driver together so that they can fight one another for our entertainment, and - after an epic battle - The Bride pulls out Driver's remaining eye with a pluck of her skilled hands. Inside of killing her like she did the other members of the DVAS, though, The Bridge just leaves her to thrash around in a trailer like Pris from
Blade Runner. Granted, there's a Black Mamba loose in the trailer, but even the credits note that Driver's status as a living human being is best summed up with a question mark. What The Bride is failing to forget here? That this woman shot her and her unborn child on her wedding day - don't even risk that she might survive, you know? Hasn't The Bride seen
Zatoichi? Tarantino surely has.
