8 Famous Movies You Didn't Know Had Abandoned Happy Endings

7. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)

z4148378XThe "Sad" Ending... A lot of people were probably rather confused when the credits rolled on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World'sEnd, and not just because the movie that they'd spent almost three hours watching was utterly incomprehensible. No, they were probably sort of baffled about the fact that two of its main characters, lovers Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan, finished up, like, not in a relationship. The plot point we're left on means that Will can only return to land every 10 years, for some horribly convoluted reason, and that's that. The Abandoned "Happy" Ending... I don't know why, but a rather crucial bit of dialogue was left out of the final cut of this movie, which apparently explained how Will would be able to return to land forever after he'd spent 10 years on board his ship, the Flying Dutchman. Which is "happier," I guess, in the sense that it sort of ties up a relationship we've spent, oh, eight and a half hours invested in. I say "invested in," but I'm neutral to it all, to be honest. Will and Elizabeth are pretty boring. I sort of hate them both. Sorry.
