5. It's A Satire Of Soaps - The Room

Brilliantly described as "the Citizen Kane of bad movies", The Room has become widely loved for its genuine awfulness. The passion project for mysterious millionaire Tommy Wiseau, The Room fails in all its desired goals, if they existed in the first place. Anyone who has seen or read The Disaster Artist, will know that the film was meant to be a genuine drama piece and not as a satire of soaps that Wiseau retrospectively wants us to believe.

But there is no doubt that when following the advice of the eccentric director that the film becomes a pleasure to watch. Each ridiculous storyline, every horrifying sex scene, every drawn out conversation that goes nowhere, when viewed as satire, is humour at its finest.

Scenes that are otherwise cringeworthy, such as a mother announcing she has breast cancer with no reaction whatsoever from her daughter, works brilliantly as a dark comedy.

The other great thing about treating this film in this context is what it says about the quality of the dreadful soapies that were so addictive and so watched through the 80's and 90's. I mean really, is the acting in Neighbours or Eastenders any worse than this? Well yes, but you see my point.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
