8 Films Disowned By Their Directors Before They Were Released

5. Accidental Love (2015)

Keanu Reeves Exposed
Millennium Entertainment

Accidental Love, also known as Nailed during it's production, started production sometime in 2008. Now for anyone who might have seen this film (maybe one of the three of you happens to read this) that should set some alarm bells ringing, as Accidental Love's final product definitely didn't warrant seven whole years of development.

The film actually finished primary filming in early 2010, and by "finished" I mean the entire production team got sick of not being paid and quit. Supposedly production on the project was halted no less than 14 times over this two year period, and the film's producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher refused to film a scene pivotal to the film's plot until after all the production team had been paid.

The film's director, David O. Russell, refused to return for re-shoots after quitting the production. After the original production company, Capitol Productions, went bankrupt in 2010, the film was purchased by Millennium Entertainment in 2014 and completed.

David O. Russell subsequently removed both his directorial and co-writing credits from the film, instead going under the pseudonym Stephen Greene. Then, to nobody's surprise, the film was released to awful, awful reviews. Definitely worth the seven years of production hell.
