8 Films Where Not Giving A F**k Improved Everything

3. Jurassic Park: The Lost World

This is one of the times that a contractually obligated sequel actually turned out really, really well. Michael Crichton and Steven Spielberg really went overboard with this one, giving you every type of dinosaur you could ever want, plenty more action (a criticism of the first film by many was that the dinosaurs weren't in enough scenes), and bringing back the best-loved character, and this time making him even better. So how do you go about mounting a sequel after the park in the original shut down? You send them back, this time to capture the dinosaurs and bring them back to the mainland. This film was brilliant because of the added human threat, which the original was kind-of lacking. Having Pete Postlethwaite as the primary antagonist is an inspired piece of casting, but giving him a chance to redeem himself at the end is even better. Steven Spielberg always wanted to make a Godzilla film, and this is what Roland Emmerich's version should have been. Letting the dinosaurs loose in San Diego is a classic "oh, what the hell!" moment from Spielberg, and we're glad he did it. Because really, if you're going to let dinosaurs loose anywhere, it has to be in Ron Burgundy's home town. I'm willing to bet the news that day would've been terrific.
