8 Films That Were Made Solely To Hold Onto Rights
7. Porky's: Pimpin' Pee Wee
Porky’s was basically the American Pie of its era, with the original three movies following a group of horny teenagers getting into all sorts of sticky situations. It was hardly a series crying out for a modern update, but the journey to get one made was surprisingly complicated,
A production company purchased the rights to make a new Porky's if they met certain conditions, but after a solid decade of nothing happening they realised they had to make something that would satisfy the original contract. With the option expiring they hired famed b-movie director Brian Trenchard-Smith to whip up a tiny budget sex comedy in fifteen days.
Smith knew the film would basically be buried, and that the production company was only making it with the hopes of producing g a big budget remake down the line. Pimpin' Pee Wee was barely given a release, and those who saw it didn’t exactly shower it with praise.
