6. The Silence of the Lambs
As new iterations of the famous Hannibal enjoy varying degrees of success, its sometimes easy to forget just how extraordinary this adaptation is. Anthony Hopkins has made the role of Hannibal Lectre an extremely difficult one to follow, and its in this film that he really cuts his teeth, pardon the pun. Hes disturbing, vile and downright loathsome, but theres also this unexplainable desire to like him. Its this side of Hopkins' role that makes the final scene so enjoyable. While on the phone to FBI agent Clarice, Hannibal says do wish we could chat longer, but... I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye. As uneasy as this line makes us feel, theres also his little side of us all that enjoys hearing this sadistic double meaning to close out the film.

As a pretty nerdy guy, I've loved film and television since I was a wee lad. Growing up in Ireland, The Den was the show to watch with it playing Batman The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation and everything in between. I have an MA in Radio and Television Production and have written for various sites, hope you enjoy my articles/lists for What Culture!
