1. Moving Beyond The "Psychological Restraints Of The Film Industry" - Crispin Glover
You'd have to have lived under a rock, hidden away from movies entirely, to have not come across Crispin Glover. He may be most famous for his role as George McFly in the 1980s classic Back to the Future, but it was one of the most memorable performances of the era, and one which has rightly earned him a spot in the Hollywood pantheon. Disagreements with director Robert Zemeckis meant that we didn't get to see any more Glover in the Back to the Future sequels, and throughout the rest of his career his appearances in movies were often little more than cameos, as the actor became increasingly disillusioned with what he described as corporately funded and distributed movies. Occasional forays into the mainstream - for instance his appearance in Charlie's Angels - were used to fund his own pet projects, and Glover has amassed a stronger independent record than most, with numerous books and albums under his belt. Perhaps his strongest reaction to the film industry came with his 2005 film What Is It? starring a cast of people with Down Syndrome. Featuring strong sex and violence, Glover described the movie as my reaction to the psychological restraints to the film industry over the last 30 years, where everything that would make an audience uncomfortable is excised.
