8 Great Directors Who Have Made More Bad Movies Than Good

6. Spike Lee

Spike LeeThe Good:Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, He Got Game, The 25th Hour, Inside Man, She's Gotta Have It, ClockersThe Bad:She Hate Me, Girl 6, Bamboozled, Summer of Sam, School Days, Miracle at St. Anna, School Daze, Mo' Better Blues, Red Hook Summer Spike Lee's favourite joint seems to consist of bad-mouthing every other director in Hollywood who isn't him, including the likes of Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino, who he believes to be incredibly overrated. That'd be fine, I guess, if Lee were, oh, say, Stanley Kubrick or something, and not a filmmaker who has made far more middling or plainly bad motion pictures over the course of his career than actual good ones. Yes, Spike, it's true. Don't get me wrong: Lee has obvious talent, and he's made lots of awesome movies - Do The Right Thing is a phenomenal work, and one of my favourite films ever, in fact. But this guy goes about about Hollywood acting like - for lack of a better term - his sh*t doesn't stink, even though he's prone to screw-ups like everyone else. The man has made over 20 movies, which is impressive, but he should lighten up, given that so many of them are pretty terrible.
