The Conjuring has long remained one of the best horror movies in recent memory, helping to kickstart mainstream appreciation for the genre back up again when it released in 2013, and its sequel carried that on in excellent fashion. The story sees paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on a case in Enfield, where a demonic entity is plaguing the Hodgson family and possessing daughter Janet. At the most climactic point of the movie, Lorraine banishes the demon by learning its name and using it to wield power over Valak, the demon nun - but that isn't the first time that we experience it.

Valak has actually hidden its name all throughout the movie, acting as a subliminal guide for audience members tuned in enough to pick it up. Appearing behind Lorraine as she reads in her library, around the Warren's breakfast table, and even on their daughter's bracelet crafting, Valak spells its name out repeatedly as the movie wears on, letting its permeating presence be known at all times.

Either that, or the guiding force and faith that Lorraine has in God is channelled into physicality, letting Lorraine know the answer to her question before she even knows to ask it.
