8 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By Superman

5. Wiping Lois Lane's Memory - Superman II

Margot Kidder Lois Lane The clever Lois Lane uses her journalistic mind to put two and two together in Superman II and figure out why Clark Kent acts uncomfortably like a man wearing a spandex outfit underneath his regular suit. The knowledge of Superman's true identity tears down a barrier between her, Clark, and the super guy. They decide to pursue a romantic relationship further than simply flirtatious passes as long as Clark gives up being Superman. However, in the end that doesn't work out and Clark is forced to regain his powers to save the world. We see that Superman's code of moral ethics can go the way of his home planet and simply implode when it comes to Lois. He is willing to sacrifice his ability to save the planet just to be with her. Yet sacrificing power for love is a continuous theme throughout the history of mankind and not a hate worthy action, especially in today's culture where all mottos have been forgotten except for "Do what makes you happy." Superman's willingness to become human for Lois is not questionable unless you wish to be harsh. What is questionable is the action Clark takes to deal with an unhappy Lois after he must return to being Superman again. Clark meets Lois in the Daily planet. She is obviously upset about all that has happened from knowing that he is indeed the man of steel. Realizing this Clark gives her one last kiss and in that kiss uses yet another little known power of his to wipe away her memory of their romantic night together and the revealing of his true identity (despite the fact that his normal disguise is only wearing glasses and parting his hair on the opposite side, casual details any hard nosed reporter could see through). The once more blissful Lois goes on thinking that Clark is just the nerdy guy she works with and Superman flies off into space knowing what has truly passed between them. So Superman would rather wipe the memory of the girl he's been with than live up to the consequences of starting an intimate relationship with her?
