8 Horror Characters We Were Happy To See Killed

1. Franklin Hardesty - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Scream 3
Bryanston Pictures

On paper, Franklin Hardesty would usually be a character who you'd root for.

A wheelchair-bound paraplegic who was on his way to investigate the awful reports that his grandfather's grave had been vandalised, his determination to protect the sacred resting place of his deceased family member should be commendable.

The problem is, Franklin is a rude prick.

While it's his sister Sally who ends up being the 'final girl' of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Franklin isn't quite so lucky and ends up getting killed off mid-way through the 1974 movie.

Upon a first viewing, the cards that have been dealt to Franklin mean that you naturally have sympathy for him, but then you soon realise that this is a character who is infuriating for all of those around him. Forever complaining, acting like a spoilt child, and even bafflingly blowing a raspberry, Franklin is right up there when it comes to the most annoying characters in horror history.

By the time that Leatherface lurks out of the shadows to kill Franklin with his trusty chainsaw, it actually comes as a relief - so off-putting is the character.
