8 Horror Movie Monsters Scarier Than The Actual Villain

6. The Real Smiley - Smiley

Level 10 Films

Without a doubt, Smiley is one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. It felt cringey and dated back in 2012, and it has aged like milk since then.

A mysterious ghost story about the titular monster - whose face is made up of open wounds resembling the smiley face emoji - the idea is a lot like Bloody Mary or Candyman, only with an embarrassing YouTube twist. Here, if you type out 'I did it for the lulz" three times on a messaging service, Smiley will show up and kill the person on the other end.

The thing is, while the story is asinine and the acting is even worse, the design of Smiley himself ain't that bad. If you think about it too much it definitely loses something, but it could be scary in the right hands.

This makes it all the worse, then, when the one thing the flick has going for it is undermined at the end. See, it turns out the Smiley murders had actually been staged by a group of dickheads for clout, in the hope that they could make the story go viral and inspire similar killings across the country.

However, after this reveal it turns out that there is a real Smiley, who kills these imitators who started the whole ruse and... I'm confused.

It doesn't make sense, and the film would have been better off if they just made Smiley a real, supernatural monster.
