8 Horror Movie Sequels We Almost Got
7. Halloween Returns
With the official word being that Dimension Films "ran out of money," 2011's Halloween 3-D helmed by Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer was scrapped. This left the legendary franchise hopelessly dead in the water after the financial disappointment of Halloween II.
A spark of hope came in 2015 when Malek Akkad reported that a new film was "moving ahead," with Saw IV-VII scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan.
Halloween Returns was described as a "re-calibration" of the series, the movie would tell the tale of a traumatized would-be victim of Myers determined to end his reign after The Shape escapes death row.
With a script complete, casting breakdowns sent out and a production date of July 2016 in Louisiana, it looked as though Myers would be returning after a 7 year absence. So what happened?
That's still not entirely clear, a press release from Akkad claimed he was "unsatisfied" with the script and felt things were moving too quickly. A full script leak promptly followed, ensuring that there was no hope for this would-be sequel.
One year later Blumhouse Productions acquired a share of the rights and thankfully brought Halloween roaring back to life.
