8 Horror Movie Sequels We Almost Got
6. Alien: Awakening
Neill Blomkamp sent Alien fans into a frenzy when he uploaded some concept art for his dream Alien sequel in January 2015.
Said art featured franchise heroine Ellen Ripley and a rather bad-ass new Xenomorph design. The inclusion of Michael Biehn's Hicks from 1986's Aliens only stoked the excitement further.
Blomkamp would later go on to reveal that he would indeed be working on an Alien reboot, with star Sigourney Weaver confirming her involvement as long as Blomkamp remained on board. The title of the project was purported to be Alien: Awakening and it would disregard everything following James Cameron's Aliens.
Excitement was high and the appetite for the film was there. However, 20th Century Fox opted instead to adopt a wait-and-see attitude to the project as they were moving forward with Ridley Scott's prequel continuation Alien: Covenant.
The last hint of a Blomkamp-Weaver movie fans got was in 2017 when Blomkamp commented that the chances of the film happening were "slim." Given the failure of Alien: Covenant, this seems a shame, as the return of Ellen Ripley would no doubt prove Box-Office gold.
