8 Horror Movie Sequels We Almost Got
1. Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor
The late 80s Sleepaway Camp sequels may not have had theatrical runs, but they made a tidy profit on home video and the more humorous take was received warmly by fans.
The response was enough that in 1992 a sequel was commissioned. Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor would follow Alison, an amnesic young woman who is haunted by violent dreams of campground murders. Trying to figure out her identity she returns to the campground as murders begin anew.
Reading this premise, the film sounds very promising, however production company Double Helix Films entered bankruptcy shortly after filming began. What was shot amounted to about 30 minutes of rough, unedited footage that was unsalvagable for release, thus the project was abandoned.
You may be confused as this sequel DID receive a feature-length DVD release in 2012... However this mainly consists of an hour of "flashback" footage from previous films trying to tie together what little original footage there was into a cohesive story... it failed.
The Sleepaway Camp sequels have a wonderfully dark humor and sinister atmosphere to them, and from what little we have seen, The Survivor hoped to continue that into the 90s, One can only imagine the campy nightmare we would've gotten... sigh.
