2016 was a brilliant year for horror movies, but it was Raw that revived French new wave horror and gave a whole new meaning to being a vegetarian.

In the movie, Alexia is the sister of our main protagonist, Justine. After becoming infected after both eating raw rabbit that gives them a taste for human flesh, the rest of the film shows us their inner struggle against acting out on their impulses in university.

As you can probably imagine, this rabbit hole of madness disguised as a coming-of-age movie definitely provides some gory moments and questionable actions. At the very end of the movie, Justine's roommate Adrien is revealed to be dead in the bed next to her. Understandably, she freaks out and starts to blame herself for his death. Out of the corner of her eye, Justine spies a hunched over Alexia covered in blood, most notably around her mouth.

As the pin drops, Justine makes the split decision to come to her sister's aid rather than run in terror. There's something beautiful about this moment between two sisters; the difficulty of their afflictions is mutually understood between them both.

Up until this point, you would be forgiven for not liking Alexia as a character, as she causes the death of multiple people without any regard for their lives. However, this last leg of the film gives humanity to her, as you can understand that the choice to keep her classmates safe from herself is ultimately of the utmost importance.
