3. Kayako – The Grudge

Anyone who is murdered by their husband in a fit of rage definitely deserves to have a bit of sympathy. And becoming a vengeful spirit in reaction to this can kind of be understood too... right?

Our vengeful spirit antagonist, Kayako, unfortunately does fall into this category, and is actually one of the victims of a double murder alongside her son, Toshio. The audience discovers that her husband, Takeo, was in fact the perpetrator of this double homicide. After discovering that his wife could be in love with a college professor, he brutally murders the two family members in their home, before being hanged shortly after by his deceased wife's ghost (good for her!)

The overall vibe of this movie has many people sadly understanding the vengeance and bitterness hidden with Kayako’s ghost, but it does still leave a considerable amount of room for wanting to see her taken down after her murderous rampage and multiple killings.

You truly cannot blame Kayako for seeking revenge and holding an aptly named 'grudge' against her killer husband, especially when the death of her only child is also on his hands. All of the murders that subsequently followed, however, were just perhaps a step too far. But other than that, we say good on you girl!
