8 Horror Movies Twice As Terrifying On The Second Watch
7. A Nightmare On Elm Street
There's a murderer who lurks in your dreams, and if you fall asleep, you die. Weaponizing something everyone experiences is a brilliant conceit, and it grants the Nightmare on Elm Street films instant rewatchability.
Not only for the inventive death scenes - which tend to grow sillier as the franchise continues - but for the elusive ethereal feel of the dream sequences. The horror lurks in not quite being able to figure out precisely when you've shifted between the real world and the dream world... until it's too late.
(The remake, sadly, made it incredibly obvious when the characters had fallen asleep, losing one of the best and most horrifying tropes from the original.)
Sleep often sneaks up on you, which means Freddy can too.
