Stephen King is famed for being the most prolific author in the horror genre. But while so many of King's tales have gone on to achieve iconic status amongst readers, it's hard to ignore the fact that some of the writer's other works are absolute stinkers.

Being honest, Gerald's Game is far from King's finest work, yet director Mike Flanagan managed to turn that so-so 1992 novel into a pretty solid 2017 movie. And in that movie, there is only one single death.

On the service, Gerald's Game is about a troubled marriage desperate to be sparked back into life. What sparks a flailing relationship into life, you ask? How about a weekend away to explore mild bondage? That's the case for Gerald (Bruce Greenwood) and Jessie (Carla Gugino).

Getting their kink on, things go from sexy times to dead times in the blink of an eye, when Gerald's attempts to play out a rape fantasy end with he himself having a heart attack and dropping dead. For poor Jessie, she's left in limbo, handcuffed to a bed in a remote lake house.

What's really going on in Gerald's Game though, is one woman descending into madness as she digs up traumatic memories and explores the varying sides of her own personality. And in amongst all of this, the picture serves up a solitary death - that being the horned-up Gerald.
