If anything has really made the round in horror movies, it has to be the Necronomicon.

Originally created up by writer H. P. Lovecraft as a fictional grimoire, the tome become the central plot point of The Evil Dead series - used to accidentally conjure up the deadites plaguing Ash and his pals in their woodland retreat. Whilst it certainly was popularised in this series, it wasn't actually the first place the book popped up: that honour, if it can be pinpointed at all, goes to The Haunted Palace with Vincent Price.

Appearing later in The Dunwich Horror:

Versions of the Necronomicon are seeded throughout the horror genre, with roughly 26 films under its belt.

Looks like necromancers and meddling kids all have their preference for pulling zombies out the ground. Honestly, with such tried and tested methods, who can really blame them?

The Necronomicon has also cropped up as an idle cameo in Jason Goes to Hell (as mentioned earlier) and Pumpkin Head 2, connecting a whole load of horror movies into one big web of undead antics.

Lovecraft would truly be proud.
