8. Bucky Remembers

While Captain America: The Winter Soldier concluded with Bucky showing signs that he remembered the life he had before being brainwashed by HYDRA, the movie was unable to utilise the same kind of easy plot device that the comic book version of the story did (in that, Steve used the Cosmic Cube to restore his memories). However, it appears as if time away from Alexander Pierce's brainwashing machine and that moment he and Steve shared on the Helicarrier helped to jog Bucky's memory. The footage shown at D23 featured the captured assassin - in the same location featured in Ant-Man's after-credits scene - telling his old friend that he remembers the name of Steve's mother (Sarah) and that the once scrawny Brooklyn kid used to stuff newspaper in his shoes to appear taller. The look on Cap's face when he hears this has been described as simultaneously heartbreaking and heart-warming. Bucky needed to remember his history with Steve for their relationship to effectively develop in Captain America: Civil War, and while his sudden recollection of the past feels a little convenient, it sounds like it will work in the context of the movie. This also explains recent rumours that Bucky will be on Team Cap and set photos featuring him working alongside Black Panther.
