8 Infamous Movie Myths You Won't Believe Are Actually True

3. A Potato & A Shoe Are Visible During The Asteroid Field Scene In Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back

Given the size and stature of the Star Wars franchise, all sorts of zany myths and legends were bound to crop up eventually. Was Chewbacca secretly played by George Lucas, for instance, or did the director originally intend for Han Solo to be part of the Skywalker family and changed his mind when he realised there was way too much incest going on already? Not at all, because I totally made those ones up, of course - but you get the idea.

One myth that has been doing the rounds (for real, I promise) is a rather bizarre one: according to a bunch of sources, it's possible to spot a shoe and a potato floating around during the iconic asteroid sequence in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.

Though this might sound insane, it's a legitimate claim. Fed up with George Lucas' increasingly impossible demands, it's rumoured that his visual effects team included the shoe and the potato to see whether or not he noticed. Which he didn't, apparently, given that you can glimpse them in the movie today.
