The big daddy of confusing movies and touted the most realistic time-travel film out there, Primer is Shane Carruth's deep dive into the world of time travel and its effects on two men that dabble with things with larger consequences than they realise.
Aaron and Abe work selling error-checking technology, filling their evenings with entrepreneurial projects in the same field - eventually accidentally creating a machine that allows one to travel back in time.
Experimenting with his own body, Abe masters the use of the time-travel box, which works by Original-Abe turning on a machine, researching stock prices, going inside the box, and coming out 6 hours into the past to make his investments with Aaron. But when another the double of another man turns up inexplicably showing side-effects of time travel, Abe attempts to make things right by going back to the beginning and never doing the experiment at all.
Things get messy.
