8 Irresistible Film Cameos By Sportsmen

5. Hines Ward - The Dark Knight Rises

This entry could be extended to include the whole of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the American Football team who pose as the €˜Gotham Rogues€™ in The Dark Knight Rises. Hines Ward is the most prominent player on screen in what has to be one of the most visually remarkable movie scenes of recent years. A tracking shot follows Hines as he returns a kick while the ground beneath his feet is literally falling away as a result of Bane€™s master plan of destruction. Filmed at the Steeler€™s home ground of Heinz Field, the scene includes more than 10,000 extras who made up the fans at the fictional football game. It is a testament to Nolan€™s painstaking strive for authenticity that the scene was shot on such a large scale with a stadium full of real people instead of opting for the easier alternative of using CGI technology. It all contributes to create a genuine atmosphere of panic as Bane reeks terror in front of the unsuspecting crowd.
