8 Little Known Tics That Make Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool Awesome
1. He Controls The Tone Of The Movies
In the hands of a different actor, it would've been incredibly easy for the tone of these movies to be completely off-kilter, ending up more mean-spirited and obnoxious than anything.
After all, Deadpool exhibits countless traits of a garden variety psychopath, and to convey that while still making him charming, likeable and even occasionally sweet is no easy feat.
Going back to the duality of Wade and Deadpool, it helps immensely that Reynolds never lets us forget the journey this man has been on. Considering he's been mutilated and even killed multiple times by the end of Deadpool 2, the character's unique fusion of hilarious quip-maker and blood-crazed maniac feels oddly apt.
There's an extremely fine, grey area where an actor can nail this balance, but Reynolds makes it look so wonderfully effortless. The fact that he's clearly intimately involved with the production of the films no doubt ensures there's no tonal dissonance between his performance and the efforts of the script and direction.
Again, it's something that's not immediately apparent as you're watching the films, but when you consider how a different actor would've made so many different - and probably worse - choices, it's clear Reynolds isn't just winging it based on his own real-life persona. It's deeply calculated, and all the more brilliant as a result.
