8 Magical Movies That Turned Out Unsettling

4. The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus - That One Scene

The story of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is equally magical and disturbing, and there couldn't be a movie better suited to this particular list.

The titular Doctor is immortal, after having being tricked by Mr Nick, a personification of the Devil to take unending life in return for the soul of his daughter once she has reached the age of sixteen.

With just a few days left before losing his daughter, Parnassus turns to disgraced amnesiac con-man Tony for help, attempting to win ten souls to his cause in exchange for saving his daughter's soul.

The movie takes a turn into unsettling territory when Tony and almost-sixteen-year-old Valentina share a dream sequence in which they fulfil their desires for one another while floating along a river in a gondola.

It's hard to watch even without considering the full implications of the scene, and it makes you reevaluate a character that until that moment was nothing more than a lovable rogue.

It's a bizarre inclusion for the movie's story, and only really serves to highlight that Tony isn't the white knight the audience believed him to be, but this scene alone was enough to make everyone watching want to look away in disgust.
