8 Magical Movies That Turned Out Unsettling

5. Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe - Aslan Is Tortured

There are a number of moments in the first of the short-lived fantasy movie series that could make this list.

By far the emotional crux of the movie is Aslan's sacrifice, in which he willingly offers his life in place of traitor Edmund's, allowing the boy to return to his family to overthrow the White Witch as she attempts to conquer Narnia.

Once Aslan marches into the evil witch's midst, she shaves him and ties him to a table, encouraging her lackeys to mock him as he lies there waiting to die. When she eventually stabs and kills him, it almost seems to be a mercy.

Considering this was a family movie, witnessing the torture and murder of an anthropomorphic lion was incredibly upsetting for the audience.

Also, as an honourable mention, while Edmund is being held captive by the White Witch, he is brought his meals by Ginarrbrik, the Witch's Dwarf servant. He creepily mumbles "...special treatment for the special BOY!" as he taunts the captive child, which is nightmare fuel for many to this day.
