8 Major Batman V Superman Details Revealed By Total Film

2. Batman Is The Antagonist

Batman v Superman's marketing campaign hasn't really kicked into high gear just yet, but early concept art points to Warner Bros. obviously focusing on the conflict between the two titular heroes. Will fans be asked to take a side like in that leaked #TeamCap and #TeamIronMan Captain America: Civil War promo art though? That remains to be seen, but one person who's hoping that people won't view the conflict in such a clear cut way is director Zack Snyder. "You kind of have to understand both of their point of views," he explained. "I think you're sympathetic to both, in a weird way. It's inevitable, like two trains heading at each other on the same track." He might want to mention that to Ben Affleck then, as the actor views things a little differently! "One of the interesting things about Batman is he functions in some ways as an antagonist: you have to remember, this is Batman versus Superman! He€™s found himself in a place of harbouring a tremendous amount of rage for Superman. So it€™s how he got there, and what that€™s done to him, and what that€™s done to people around him like Alfred, who are, I think, very scared and worried for him. It€™s something that€™s interesting and new." It really does sound like a fascinating direction to take these characters in, and the fact that we won't getting a traditional protagonist/antagonist dichotomy feels like a refreshing (and sensible) way to handle the conflict.
