Why He Could Die: X-Men: Apocalypse is based off of the celebrated story Age of Apocalypse that that ran in the mid 90's, which jumpstarts due to a particular event: the death of Charles Xavier saving Magneto's life. James McAvoy's Xavier is confirmed for Apocalypse, but that could be another result of the time travel story that should also play a part in Apocalypse. Xavier dying for Magneto in the comic pushes Magneto to fill Xavier's role as peaceful mutant leader, which would be really cool to see Michael Fassbender do. Why He Could Live: Professor X has already died once, but that was in the future and has also been rectified, so a death by more conventional means could still happen. Xavier is the leader of the X-Men, so an X-Men movie without him seems pretty unlikely, unless one of the plot lines of Apocalypse is saving Xavier's life. Likelihood: 8/10. Either to set up the sequel or just for simple dramatic value, Professor X's death is very possible. Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy's face-to-face meetings, presumably through telepathy, could be a way for future Xavier to give his younger self a pep talk for what must be done. Thanks for reading! I'm a fan of all things comic book and an avid moviegoer. Trying to catch up on a never-ending backlog of films- maybe someday. Leave me a comment if you enjoy my articles, think I'm a hack, or anywhere in between.
