8 Marvel Villains Who Could Be More Popular Than Tom Hiddleston's Loki
6. The Mandarin
It's questionable as to whether the Mandarin is big enough to be as popular as Loki, but after the Iron Man 3 debacle (in which the Mandarin was presented as Trevor Slattery, an actor who was nothing more than a front for Aldrich Killian), a presentation of the character more faithful to the comics would go down with fans like a dream. That disappointment could serve as a blessing, as the comparison between it and a potential depiction of the character more true to the comic books could propel the Mandarin to the heights of cinematic legend. A recent Marvel One-Shot, called "All Hail the King", revealed that the real Mandarin does actually exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and he isn't Aldrich Killian. The One-Shot (released along with Thor: The Dark World) showed Trevor Slattery, who is in jail, talking with a documentary filmmaker, Jackson Norriss, to chronicle the events of the aforementioned Mandarin situation seen in Iron Man 3. Jackson Norriss reveals to Slattery that the Ten Rings group actually exists, that he is a member of it, and his real purpose in the jail is to break Slattery out so that he can meet the real Mandarin. The real Mandarin wears ten rings of alien origin that grant him several powers that include various energy blasts, telepathy, forcefields, control over fire and ice and matter transmutation. In addition to martial arts skills that enable him to combat an armoured Iron Man with his bare hands, he is a truly formidable foe. Fans would go crazy and, given their appreciation at the rectification of the issue, the real Mandarin certainly has the potential to be incredibly popular.
