8 Massive Celebrities Who Got Famous From Home And Away

3. Heath Ledger

The late, great Heath Ledger appeared in H&A for only nine episodes in 1997, portraying Scott Irwin. Scott started a relationship with Sally Fletcher (Kate Ritchie), only to be expelled from school after the pair broke up.

With his soap opera career behind him, Ledger quickly jumped into making movies, with leading roles in the rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You (1999), the action film The Patriot (2000), and the historical comedy A Knight's Tale (2001) establishing him as a great new actor. Further roles in Monster's Ball (also 2001), Brokeback Mountain (2005), and Candy (2006) saw him labelled as one of the best actors in the business, and someone destined for a long, acclaimed career.

His most famous role came in Christopher Nolan's superhero flick The Dark Knight (2008), in which he portrayed The Joker. His performance was universally acclaimed, but he tragically passed away shortly after filming wrapped, due to an overdose on prescription medications.

He won a posthumous Oscar for his villainous turn, and his performance in the film is often labelled as one of the greatest of all time.
