8 MCU Characters Who Could Be In The Thunderbolts Movie
4. Abomination
At the climax of 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, former special-ops commander Emil Blonsky had been transformed into the Hulk-sized Abomination after he was transfused with Bruce Banner’s gamma-irradiated blood.
Abomination seemed to have vanished from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his appearance in that movie, and there’s never been any hint of a sequel – probably due to Universal owning the rights to any standalone Hulk pictures. However, Blonsky has since made a comeback to the MCU in 2020’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In that movie, Abomination can be seen duelling against Sorcerer Supreme Wong at Xu Xialing’s Golden Daggers Club. Later scenes suggest that the pair are actually working together, as they both retreat through a portal.
While that appearance was entirely CGI with Abomination in his gamma-powered form, actor Tim Roth will reprise his role as soldier Emil Blonsky in the upcoming She-Hulk series for Disney+. In that trailer he’s seen in his human form, yet Abomination’s comic book storylines never allowed him to transform back from his gamma-powered state.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige clearly has plans for Abomination, and one of the most obvious choices would be to get him to join the Thunderbolts in a similar role to what Hulk had in the Avengers team. Just like the US Agent, Abomination is a former war hero that fell from grace and is likely looking for a chance of redemption and release from captivity.
While most people on the list of Thunderbolts candidates are spies or assassins, it would be handy for the team to have someone with sheer strength and brute force.
