8 MCU Characters Who Deserve Their Own Movie

Which characters need some time in the spotlight?

With an onslaught of MCU series and movies hitting our screens over the next few years, from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier mini-series and the sure-to-be-epic Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, it seems as though Marvel and Disney have an infinite supply of money, ideas, and characters to bring to life.

And whilst it's great to see old faithfuls like Loki, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch returning to the screen, and it's even more exciting to watch new characters such as She-Hulk and Captain Britain come to life, there are still a handful of old school MCU veterans who need a chance to strut their stuff solo.

From the long-standing supporting characters who need a chance to finally take the spotlight, heroes who have missed the boat because of ownership rules, or the massively popular who have been somewhat overlooked in recent years, the following characters are all begging for a chance to go solo and give audiences a chance to dig deeper into their stories.

The MCU is a place of character growth, after all, and following the poignant culmination of arcs belonging to Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanov (all R.I.P), now may be the perfect time for the overshadowed sidekicks and underused allies to take control of the franchise.

Here are eight MCU characters most deserving of their own movie. Major spoilers for the MCU follow.

8. Mark Ruffalo's Hulk

It's no secret that Edward Norton had a tumultuous relationship with Marvel and The Incredible Hulk (2008), which detailed the origins of the angry hero and took on a much darker tone than the rest of the MCU. When Mark Ruffalo was cast to take Norton's place in The Avengers (2012), the actor did a stand-up job of not only replacing the previous actor, but also of making Bruce Banner a much better character.

Ruffalo's reserved approach to Banner was exactly what the character needed, perfectly juxtaposing the doctor's relationship with the Hulk, and he's so far ended up starring in six MCU vehicles. He is reported to be reprising his role in the Disney mini-series She-Hulk, which will introduce Jennifer Walters to the franchise.

Though it's possible that the series will be used by Marvel to say goodbye to Ruffalo's Hulk, the actor is in desperate need for his own movie. This has never come to pass since stand-alone Hulk films belong to Universal Studios, rather than Marvel or Disney, and whilst it's unlikely something will come along to change these rules, it would be amazing to see Hulk take centre stage in his own adventure - especially since fans last saw him as Professor Hulk, completely in control of his duelling personalities.

Hulk has been on quite the journey since The Avengers, anchored by the brilliance of Ruffalo, and a movie detailing the next step in his journey would be a welcome addition to the franchise.
