8 Miscast Movie Roles That Received A Bizarre Amount Of Praise

6. Mel Gibson - Braveheart

There's no denying the fact that Mel Gibson is incredibly likeable and charismatic as wild Scot turned English-killer William Wallace, but he was hardly the right man for the job, was he? Be it simply down to the fact that he doesn't look Scottish at all, or that his attempt at a local accent was bordering the "Kevin Costner," and there are numerous reasons as to why his turn here might be branded as a "miscasting of extreme proportions." And though many critics came to attack Gibson's portrayal of William Wallace in their reviews, the majority of people settled for the: "Oh, well... don't worry about it" approach. Now, don't get us wrong: it's nice that the population were able to overcome the surface level issues with Mel's performance here, but since when has humanity been so forgiving of Hollywood actors (especially Mel Gibson)? Did we all find the final scene of the movie so heart-wrenching that this miscasting was overlooked? Apparently so: Braveheart took Best Picture. The Praise: Well, ol' Mel was gifted with a MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Actor, alongside various other Best Actor Awards for that year. Why was he nominated again? Uh, FREEDOM?!
