8 Mistakes That Will Ruin Upcoming Movies

The Mistake: Casting big movie stars as the adult Losers.

The casting of the adult Losers' Club in It: Chapter 2 is one of the hottest stories circulating the movie industry at the moment, and with good reason; the original was a smash-hit, and it ensured that all eyes would be firmly on the upcoming sequel.

As soon as Chapter 1 came out, the internet exploded with possible casting choices for the sequel's adult characters, and most of the time, these wishlists included some big, big names, like Amy Adams as Beverly Marsh or Chris Pratt as Ben Hanscom.

That might sound nice in theory, but filling out the cast with a series of famous, universally-recognisable faces will only detract from the horror of the situation.

Look at some of the most effective scary movies of the past ten, fifteen years: Saw, The Descent, The Conjuring, Paranormal Activity. Upon release, these movies all contained no-name actors (many still do), or actors that have been in some stuff, but were still only moderately famous (like The Conjuring's Patrick Wilson).

This helped those movies because it felt like we were watching a group of strangers endure a series of horrifying situations. If Chris Pratt were in Saw and Amy Adams in The Descent, it'd be impossible to get Star-Lord and Lois Lane from your head, and that would take you out of the experience. It's easier to believe the horror if you don't have any prior investment in the actors who're being killed.

Plus, the It series is all about Pennywise - having some bigger, flashier names in the cast will only draw important, script-level attention away from the main attraction.
