8 MMA Fighters You Didn't Know Appeared In Big-Budget Movies

1. Georges St-Pierre (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)

One of the greatest, if not the greatest, mixed martial artists of all time once decided to test his performance abilities outside the octagon.

Although a minor role, his appearance as Batroc the Leaper in the second Captain America instalment was instantly recognizable by casual and hardcore MMA fans alike. At the beginning of the film, Batroc, an Algerian mercenary, along with his men, seize a ship belonging to S.H.I.E.L.D. and hold it hostage. He engages with the titular hero shortly after, in a hand-to-hand sequence that clearly demonstrated GSP's athletic prowess. He is defeated, captured by the film's main villain Alexander Pierce, and interrogated for information thereafter.

The fate of Batroc is ultimately unknown, as he never perished over the course of the film. This could potentially lead to GSP's return to the big screen once again, as both general audiences and MMA fans alike are now aware of his character's capabilities, along with the former Welterweight king's MMA star power.

Should Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson ever need another foil to take on his version of Captain America, the future UFC Hall of Fame inductee is sure to be around to fill that role.
