8 MMA Fighters You Didn't Know Appeared In Big-Budget Movies

2. Randy Couture (The Expendables)

A pioneer of the sport itself, Couture made waves during his tenure in the Octagon, notably becoming the first of several to simultaneously hold titles in two weight divisions. That may have been the start of something special, as Couture had also become the first MMA fighter known to have stared multiple times in one, big-budget film series.

The Expendables film series was a return to form for some of the most over-the-top action movies of yesteryear. The plots of each of the three films were largely forgettable, as seeing established action stars such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger round out an ensemble cast was enough to make headway.

That isn't to say that action movie veterans were the only necessity for these films to work. Veterans, and newcomers alike, from other industries were brought on as well, as such WWE's Steve Austin and, of course, former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion, Randy Couture.

Couture starred as the team's demolitions expert, and frequently had hilarious interactions with each member of The Expendables. His dry-humoured character clashed with his unpredictable nature, which resulted in hilarious exchanges, similar to Dave Bautista's Drax The Destroyer from the Guardians of the Galaxy film series.

Couture was a mainstay for each instalment of the series, solidifying himself as a bonafide action movie star. Better for general audiences to remember his role here, rather than that awful Scorpion King sequel.
