It's not often that a movie's poster actually spoils the movie itself, but Gone Girl's striking one-sheet did just that - only, it did it in such a sneaky fashion that it's incredibly easy to overlook.

The movie revolves around Nick and Amy Dunne, a seemingly happy married pair who draw the eyes of the world's media when Amy goes missing under mysterious circumstances. As it turns out, she orchestrated the whole thing herself, framing Nick for her murder after discovering he was having an affair. Midway through the film it's reveal that she's alive and well, and is tracking the news coverage of her own disappearance in order to ensure she doesn't get caught.

And this is the secret that's hidden on the poster. The image show's Amy's eyes high up in the sky, watching over Nick as he's slowly scapegoated for her disappearance. The poster even has a scrolling news ticker at the bottom, an indicator that Amy isn't dead - she's alive, watching news coverage of the whole investigation as it unfolds.

Of course, if you haven't seen the film (or read the book) it's almost impossible to make that deduction; it just looks like a neat poster. But those are the most satisfying secrets to learn, aren't they? The ones hidden in plain sight.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
