7. "I'd Give My Life For Them" - Spider-Man 3

The divisive Spider-Man 3 signalled the end of the Maguire-Raimi Spider-Man era, with its questionable characterisation and excessive antagonists proving a fatal combination.

Still, it had its moments - the creation of Sandman was brilliantly done - and its emotional ending, with Peter and Mary-Jane mourning the loss of Harry Osborn, was among them.

Harry sacrifices himself by jumping in front of Peter in order to stop him being stabbed by Venom, and shortly after, the junior Osborn dies in front of a beautiful golden sunset - and this death was actually foreshadowed earlier in the film by Harry himself.

After donning the Green Goblin garb and chasing Peter around the city, Harry becomes hospitalised, with all memories of his conflict with Peter having been erased. Peter and MJ later come to visit Harry in hospital, and after they leave, a nurse tells Harry that he has good friends. Harry agrees, before adding "I'd give my life for them."

Spider-Man 3 is such a long movie and this line came so early that it's easy to forget, but Harry's vow to give his own life for his friends is exactly what happens. He may have dabbled in villainy during Spider-Man 3, but at least he's a man of his word.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
