3. Will's Sword Skills - Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
The fact that Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl turned out as good as it did is amazing, especially considering it was based purely on a theme park ride.
Early in the film, Jack Sparrow and Will Turner have their first encounter - a sword-on-sword brawl in Will's workshop. After Jack evaluates Will's combat ability, he turns to leave, only for Will to throw his sword so it sticks in the door and blocks Jack's exit.
At first this seems like it was only in the movie because it looked cool, and the story mandated that Jack stay inside the workshop for a little bit longer. In actual fact, this moment was put here - and was given so much attention - on purpose, as the filmmakers needed to make sure audiences knew that Will could pull this manoeuvre off.
Why? Well, Will uses the exact same trick at the end of the movie to save Jack's life.
As Jack falls with a noose around his neck, Will throws his sword and wedges it in the wood beneath Jack, stopping his fall and ensuring his neck doesn't snap.
This was a neat reversal of the earlier sword-fight scene where Will actually wanted to see Jack die, only this time, he wanted to see Jack live.
