8 More Movies With Crazy Foreshadowing You Totally Missed

2. Left Hand Free - Captain America: Civil War

Captain America: Civil War is one of the best movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, partly due to its expectation-subverting final battle, which pits Tony and Steve against each other in an emotionally-fuelled scrap, rather than against a CGI villain who wants to destroy the world.

One of this scrap's defining moments is the bit where Bucky has his robotic arm blasted off by Iron Man, which takes him out of the fight. Brilliantly, this was foreshadowed earlier in the movie in the unlikeliest of scenes, via the unlikeliest of methods.

The scene in question is the introduction of Tom Holland as Peter Parker. As the word "Queens" appears on the screen and the camera pans over a group of apartment blocks surrounded by trees, the song "Left Hand Free" by alt-J can be heard.

And which arm did Bucky lose? His left one. Since the Queens scene and the final fight scene aren't really linked at all, this connection was near-impossible to spot, but it just shows you how much attention is devoted to every aspect of Marvel's movies.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
